Component Systems: Green Facade Form

Project for Dana Cupkova’s Component Systems course. It represents a portion of a facade system to support plant growth and greywater filtration. Collaboration with Damon Wake, Monica Freundt, and Daniel Quesada.
facade system presentation – a PDF of the drawings/images we produced to communicate with the fabricator. It will eventually be constructed at full scale out of laser-cut aluminum. The form is generated via an almost entirely parametric workflow. This workflow starts in Photoshop, where the surface shape is “painted” as a depth map/heightfield. It is then brought into Rhino as a surface, and manipulated through grasshopper in a number of operations that generate the rib structure, calculate intersections, and produce the necessary slots/holes/tabs/other connection details in a flat sheet pattern ready to be arranged for the fabricator.
